I know what it is like to live life with a jam-packed, non-stop schedule. I know what it is to be drained, with no other option but to keep going. Having said that, I have come to know that it is possible to succeed, in a state of consistent ease, focus and exhilaration. Sounds like something only the Dali Lama and Oprah talk about, huh? Stay with me.
Growing up with a strong, passionate family in the middle of the woods (upstate NYC) I was infused with a determination to fulfill my ambitions. I knew exactly what I wanted, and after graduating high school moved to New York City! From that point on and for the next ten years, I navigated an oppressive non-stop schedule, juggling school, jobs and career. Weekend? What was that? I became exhausted and totally burnt out. But I had to keep going.
I turned to the vast world of diet crazes and nutrition theories: I went on a rampage trying everything, using my body as a guinea pig. I felt improvements in my energy level and appearance, but only for short periods of time. My body became a casualty of experimentation.
Up next: Fitness. I became obsessed. I practiced regimes such as P90X, Insanity, Spin®, swimming, Pilates Reformer, bootcamps, yoga– you name it!
By over-exercising, I disrupted the natural functions of my body. When I found myself in a specialist’s office, I knew that my hectic lifestyle was no longer the threat; I was. The way I related to food and fitness directly correlated to how I treated to myself—I was abusing myself.
As I began to unravel the underlying emotional state of my life that had instigated this behavior, I started to notice the same neuroses all around me. Friends, family, colleagues, hell, people on the street, were also living on automatic pilot. Everyone was either following the latest craze in diet, fitness and nutrition without listening to their own bodies or they were so overwhelmed by all the info out there, they shut down.
I wanted to do something . But before I could help others, I needed to understand how a woman like me, with so much passion, heart and determination, got beaten down. It was then that I stumbled upon the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. I was drawn to the program because it takes a holistic approach, using the tools of food, fitness and personal goals to achieve balance and success.
They say an expert is a person who has made all the mistakes that can be made in a very narrow field; that is me. I found that optimal life isn’t about deprivation, or muscling through. In order to achieve ultimate success in any field, one must be fully present by supporting oneself in a way that feels energizing.
I continue to explore and learn this lesson, every day—it’s a rush like nothing else!
Now I create personalized programs for high performance career-minded individuals, who work hard, play hard, and want to be present in all aspects of their life through a foundation of nutrition, fitness and wellnes.
